The Gasparilla Film Festival will show films in the following categories:
Action/Extreme Sports Category (NEW for 2008)-
Looking for adrenaline-inducing action and/or extreme skill! Seeking speed, height, danger, spectacular stunts and/or mind-numbing dedication to your craft. Sports of all seasons welcome. Bring your adrenaline rush!
Films can be shorts or long form. All categories of sports and action
activities are featured, both indoor and outdoor.
Showcase of the Americas - These are films shot in or that are about the Americas, both North and South America.
Shorts - These are films that are under 60 minutes and can be of all different genres. There is a music sub-category for music videos or films about music in this section of the festival. The music videos must be no more than 5 minutes in length. The festival seeks to showcase the connection between music and film in this category.
Fun & Fear - This is the section for comedies and horrors.
A special category has been added for Young Filmmakers. The Festival is accepting films of all genres in this category from high school and college age students. The students must be no older than 25 years of age. The Young Filmmaker who wins the award - sponsored by the South Tampa Chamber - in this category will receive a small cash prize.
The Grand Jury Prize will be based on narrative dramas from the Showcase of the Americas. Audience awards will include, Documentary, Short and Feature. A separately judged award will be given to the young filmmaker.
Filmmakers selected for the festival will be treated to a FILMMAKER ONLY day that includes a Cocktail Reception, A Filmmaker Only Dinner and After Party.
The Gasparilla Film Festival is presented by Wachovia and Wachovia Insurance Services.
